About St. John’s Fort
St. John’s Fort is a military installation situated on top of St. John’s Hill in Bandar Hilir, south of Melaka. It was formerly a Portuguese chapel in dedication to St. John the Baptist. Later it was made into a Dutch military installation in the late 18th century. Most interestingly, the guns in the fort are faced inland instead of the sea which says that during that time the Dutch were threatened more from the mainland than the sea.
